Dental Implants

Dental implants are a safe and effective way to replace teeth.  The implant acts as artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone to support replacement teeth or bridges. They are usually made of titanium, which is a biocompatible material that can fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration.

What is a dental implant?

The implant consists of three parts: the implant post, the abutment, and the crown. The implant post is placed into the jawbone and serves as the root of the artificial tooth. The abutment is attached to the implant post and connects the prosthetic tooth to the implant. The crown is custom-made to match the color, size, and shape of the patient’s natural teeth.  A dental implant can replace a single tooth, replace several teeth or support a denture for improved functionality and cosmetics allowing a patient to smile and eat again with confidence.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants are a popular option for people who have lost one or more teeth due to injury, decay, periodontal disease, or other reasons. They offer several advantages over other tooth replacement options, such as dentures or bridges, including improved appearance, better speech, improved comfort, and better oral health.

However, not everyone is a candidate. Patients must have healthy gums and enough bone in the jaw to support the implant. How long will dental implants last?

Implants can last 25 years.  Patients must be meticulous with their home care regime which includes daily including brushing and flossing.  Patients must also complete their dental scheduled dental hygiene appointments to maintain their implant, bone and gum health.  Without regular care, exams and x-rays, dental implants can fail.

Are dental implants affordable?

Yes!  Now that dental implants are an acceptable treatment for missing teeth, many dental insurance companies are providing partial payment for this treatment.
